Cemetery Division

The history of Claremont’s cemeteries dates back to the 1700’s where many Revolutionary and Civil War veterans have been buried. Today the Public Works Department maintains five municipal cemeteries covering over 76 acres. The cemeteries listed here are the responsibility of the cemetery division: Mountain View Cemetery, Union Cemetery, West Claremont Burial Grounds, West Pleasant Street Cemetery and Broad Street Cemetery. In addition to the cemetery maintenance on the city's cemeteries, the department also conducts burials and foundations for monuments for the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
