Former Claremont Railway Report
February 03, 2021
The former Claremont Railway has been deemed to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The Environmental Review performed as part of the planning for the reconstruction of the North and Main Streets intersection determined that the project may have an adverse effect on the remnants of the Claremont Railway.
The City of Claremont, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and the New Hampshire State Historic Preservation Office entered into a Memorandum of Agreement in an effort to mitigate the impacts on the Claremont Railway. As part of that mitigation, the memorandum of agreement stipulated that an extensive report on the history and origins of the Claremont Railway, created by Duffy Monahon would be made available to the public for review. The City has made this document available to the public on the City’s website. The memorandum also stipulates that the City will announce it’s availability to the general public through “News Blasts” once annually and at least one announcement on local CCTV station.
