Department Of Parks And Recreation: Superintendent Of Parks & Facility Operations
Position Summary:
Do you have a passion for parks, recreation, and making a community shine? The City of Claremont is looking for a hands-on leader to join our team as the Superintendent of Parks & Facility Operations.
This isn’t just a desk job, you’ll be out in the field, working with staff, shaping how our community enjoys parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, the Community Center, and even our aquatic facilities. Your work directly impacts the quality of life for Claremont’s residents.
What You’ll Do
- Keep Claremont’s parks, trails, and recreation facilities in top shape through smart planning, scheduling, and teamwork.
- Lead a dedicated team of 5–15 staff (depending on the season), plus seasonal employees and volunteers.
- Oversee projects big and small, everything from turf management and facility maintenance to citywide special events.
- Support operations at our Community Center and Aquatic Facilities, including lifeguards, attendants, and frontline staff.
- Be a visible community partner, collaborating with local groups, attending events, and promoting recreation opportunities.
- Step into the Director’s role when needed and help drive department-wide planning, budgeting, and growth.
What You Bring
- A Bachelor’s Degree in facility management, recreation, turf/park management, public administration or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of parks & recreation experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong leadership skills, you know how to motivate a team and get projects done.
- Experience with budgets, scheduling, and facility operations.
- A valid driver’s license (required).
- Bonus points for CPRP certification, but not required.

- Full-time leadership role, reporting to the Parks & Recreation Director.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends when events and operations call for it.

Competitive salary & benefits package through the City of Claremont.
- This is a Level 9 position under the City’s Merit Plan, with a pay range of $49,965.11 – $82,578.03.
- The City typically hires at the midpoint of the range ($66,271.56), depending on qualifications and experience
