We are seeking a Part-Time Circulation Clerk who is friendly, dependable, and

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Circulation Clerk supports daily library operations by assisting patrons at the circulation desk, providing reader guidance,
supporting children’s programming, and ensuring materials are organized and accessible. This position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to patron confidentiality.
Evening and weekend availability is required.
Key Responsibilities
Circulation s Patron Services
• Check library materials in and out using the automated circulation system
• Issue and renew library cards and update patron records
• Collect applicable fees and maintain accurate account information
• Notify patrons of holds and manage overdue materials process
• Assist patrons in locating materials and navigating library resources
• Provide basic reader’s advisory services
Customer Service s Public Support
• Deliver courteous, professional service to patrons of all ages
• Answer phones and respond to general inquiries
• Refer complex reference questions to appropriate library staff
• Maintain strict patron confidentiality
Library Operations
• Shelve and organize materials accurately using the Dewey Decimal System
• Assist with opening and closing procedures
• Prepare materials for circulation (labeling, covering, processing)
• Support interlibrary loan (ILL) processes
• Assist with bulletin boards, displays, and in-house promotions
• Support library programs and community events, including children’s activities
• Provide guidance to pages during assigned shifts
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong computer skills and general familiarity with common office software
• Ability to learn library systems and procedures
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
Preferred
• Previous experience in a library or customer service environment
• College coursework or degree
Physical s Work Environment
This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 25–50 lbs.
occasionally), shelving materials, and working at a public service desk. The work is performed primarily indoors in a public library environment.
