Communications Specialists are responsible for dispatching information via radio, telephone and verbally to police, fire, emergency medical services, and other agencies responsible for the delivery of requested or required services. Other responsibilities include maintaining a log of all calls received including the nature of the call, the location of the call, and the applicable response information or data concerning the dispatch of services. Communication Specialists serve as a receptionist at the Claremont Police Dept. as well as performing a variety of clerical duties. The selected candidates must posses the abilities to communicate and interact well, effectively, and efficiently with the public, as well as with other staff and agencies that are responsible for responding to the situation. Selected candidates must also posses the abilities to think and act quickly while remaining calm and calming others, to focus on the immediate situation and act accurately under stressful emergency and non-emergency situations.
