DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

The City of Claremont has an immediate opening for a public works director.  With a population of 13,300 citizens Claremont has all the amenities of a large city, yet maintained a strong sense of community and citizen connection to government.  The City maintains an infrastructure of 126 miles of roads, 90 miles of water transmission lines and 70 miles of sewer lines.  We contract out operations of our water and waste treatment plant.  The Department of Public works provides maintenance and repair services of the City’s roads, sidewalks, signs, water and sewer lines, transfer station and city owned cemeteries on a $8 million fiscal budget.

The Director will be able to provide the high level of expertise needed to successfully implement the vision for the Public Works Department.  This person must be highly organized, decisive and an innovative leader with superb interpersonal skills, judgment and integrity. Candidates must also be results-orientated and committed to providing leadership that will inspire, motivate and empower staff to achieve established goals.   

A bachelor’s degree with major study in Civil Engineering plus fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in areas directly related to highway construction and maintenance, municipal water and sewer systems, wastewater treatment plants and sanitary landfill with at least five years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience or a combination which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability. City residence required within 18 months of hire.

ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY  (Part-Time)

The Claremont Police Department is seeking a highly motivated person to serve as part-time Administrative Secretary to assist the City’s Prosecutor. The individual will be performing highly responsible clerical and record-keeping duties, requiring extensive knowledge of computers and working knowledge of office practices. Significant amounts of typing and filing. Associate’s Degree or equivalent training and experience is required.  The position starts at $14 hourly.

CHIEF ASSESSOR ~ ASSESSING DEPARTMENT

The City of Claremont, New Hampshire is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Chief Assessor, with emphasis on commercial appraising. Claremont a community of (aprx.) 13,400 citizens and 5500 +/- parcels borders Vermont and is surrounded by the beauty of the mountains.

This position will be responsible for setting and defending property values for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Knowledge of utility assessments is a plus but not required. Other responsibilities include managing the assessment and appraisal functions, maintaining the property tax list, maintaining and updating the GIS mapping system, providing appraisal support to the city administration staff, and educating and informing the citizens on the assessment process.  This position is appointed by the City Manager and reports directly to the City Manager.

Interested candidates should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, real estate, or related field with 5 years of relevant experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities, of the position.  In addition, DRA Certified Property Assessor Supervisor Approval, and Certified New Hampshire Assessor Designation required or attainable within the one year probationary period.  Candidates must possess proficient mathematic skills, communication skills (written & oral), and computer technology skills – familiarity with Vision CAMA System & ESRI Products a plus! The City of Claremont will be contracting with a firm to undertake a full re-evaluation in fiscal year 2019.

This is a position pays $81,237 enhanced with an excellent benefits package including, vacation time, sick time, personal time, health plan, dental, enrollment into the NH retirement system, 3 tax deferred opt. retirement plans, and more!

PART TIME FRONT DESK STAFF


Claremont Parks & Recreation Department has immediate openings for part-time Front Desk Staff.  The qualified candidates will perform various customer service and clerical duties.  Duties include reception, program registration, filing, account and record-keeping, information processing and scheduling. Professionalism, positive attitude and dependability a must. Shifts available include weekday mornings, afternoons and evenings, as well as weekends.   Wages up to $12.50 depending on experience.

LIFEGUARDS

Parks & Recreation Department is seeking to fill the position(s) of Lifeguards. Life guarding responsibilities include monitoring participant's safety in the pool, maintenance of the pool, pool area, and locker rooms, maintaining records of pool usage, chemical testing and maintaining proper water balances in the pool.
The successful candidate must be a proficient swimmer. Prior lifeguard experience preferred but will train qualified individuals. The selected candidate must successfully pass pre-employment requirements of a physical, drug screening, and criminal background search.
Wages start at $7.25 per hour through $15.00 depending upon experience. Hours of work may vary depending upon the staffing needs of the department.

CERTIFICATIONS:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or equivalent)
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
