Focus Group meeting for all City Center Residents will be Saturday, April 14th at 9:00 am.  Meeting will be held at the Marion Phillips Apartment building 243 Broad Street.

 The City of Claremont has been selected to receive funding from the U.S.  Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of their Community Challenge program.

The HUD program goals for the grant recipients are:

• To better align Federal programs to support the building of projects that further the six Livability Principles:  Provide More Transportation Choices. Promote equitable, affordable housing.  Enhance Economic Competitiveness.  Support Existing Communities.  Coordinate Policies and Leverage Investment.  Value Communities and Neighborhoods.
• To remove artificial or bureaucratic barriers among Federal programs and create a more coordinated point of contact for state and local governments building innovative projects that coordinate housing, economic development, transportation, and environmental policies and goals.

The Claremont Community Challenge grant application identified four goals:

• Expand and enhance public involvement in the planning process.
• Improve housing quality in the city center.
• Revise zoning in the city center.
• Revitalization of the city center.

Several tasks will be completed as part of the grant.  

• Community Outreach Program – Form a Steering Committee to guide the project and organize the community outreach efforts.
• Planning Study and Baseline Inventory – Create an inventory consisting of a building inventory as well as a quality assessment.  A 3-D model of the City Center will be created to help visualize the current built environment.
• Urban Core Zoning Study – Guided by the Steering Committee the project will be aided by a consultant to utilize the results of tasks 1 & 2 to recommend changes to the zoning ordinance to help maintain the character of and to enhance the city center neighborhoods.
• Administrative Tasks – Staff to support the project with communication, meetings, and coordinating documentation with HUD.
